Croatia: What to Pack…

Want to know what to pack for your Women’s Health Yoga Retreat in Croatia? You’ll be enjoying daily yoga classes, guided meditation, and nutritious meals freshly prepared by our private, on-site chef, so comfort is priority. Read this article for some packing inspo…

FIRST UP:

1. Yoga clothes

You’ll need your yoga clothes. If you are new to yoga, you can choose between yoga leggings, loose-fitting excercise trousers that taper at the ankle, or shorts. Breathable tops tight or loose, whichever you prefer.

As you know yoga leggings are everywhere! Even Penneys (Primark) stock fantastic yoga leggings, some are even made of recycled plastic bottles and are surprisingly comfortable.

We all develop our own preferences when it comes to yoga leggings, I always make sure the waistband is nice and thick so it doesn’t dig into my gut. What’s yours? (Comment in the box below, I’d love to know!)

2. Yoga Mat

For hygiene purposes, we ask you to bring your own yoga mat. This is standard practice in many yoga studios, especially since 2020. A travel mat will do fine because we will provide ground mats, on which you can place your own personal mat on. The double layer of mats also helps give an extra layer of comfort, especially for the knees and wrists. We don’t recommend using a towel as most don’t have good grip and it can get distracting straightening it throughout the class.

3. Loose, comfortable clothing, and warm layers for the evening

Pack your normal day and evening holiday clothes. Although we expect warm weather during the day, it can cool down quite a bit in the evening so be sure to pack layers to wear over your evening attire. As the dining room is open-air hoodies, pashminas, or fleece jackets are all great options to pack.

Bear in mind, that you know your body better than anyone, if you normally feel the cold more than others, bring extra-extra layers!

4. Summer Rain Jacket

It is best to pack a lightweight rain jacket just in case. This pack-a-mac from Dunnes is ideal for travel. Fingers crossed it’ll stay in your suitcase! 🤞

5. Water Bottle

The Split area enjoys some of the best drinking water in Croatia, and as you will have access to the yogi shared kitchen upstairs, we encourage an eco-friendly approach to hydration. Besides the green factor, you may find it handy to have your own water bottle for hikes and walks during the day.

You know yourself, you can get them anywhere these days, just make sure it is empty when you go through airport security.

6. Travel mug

If you wish you can bring your favourite travel mug for wandering around the villa grounds with your morning coffee or bedtime tea. We love this lightweight 12Oz Hunu Collapsible Silicone Cup which is perfect for traveling.

7. Mosquito Spray

I personally use a solution of tea tree oil and water in a spray bottle to keep mosquitos at bay. I put a few drops of tea tree oil in a spray bottle and fill it up with water.

This 100ml travel spray bottle from Boots is lightweight, reusable, and is a great option if you are traveling with only hand luggage. Pair that with a 10ml bottle of pure essential tea tree oil, most likely available from your local pharmacist or click here to view at Boots.

8. Don’t forget your travel toiletries

We are big fans of minimal waste and environmentally friendly products when possible. We love this vegetable-based soothing and conditioning shampoo and body wash bar by Josie’s Botanicals. Josie’s Botanicals is an Irish-owned natural skincare company based in county Meath, owned and run by the inspiring Irish businesswoman and holistic therapist Barbara McAteer.

Forget about decanting your shampoo and shower gel into those annoying little bottles the night before you fly. Choose from Lavender Cedarwood or Lemongrass and Rosemary, all bars come in reusable aluminum tins which are handy for storage afterward.

9. A small notebook and pen

You may want to jot down health tips or techniques during our women’s health chats. As many of us use screens on a daily basis, old-fashioned paper and pen/pencil are encouraged to help aid relaxation, minimize distraction and encourage serotonin production.

10. Don’t forget water shoes!

Water shoes are an essential bit of kit for trips to the beaches near Split, which are as famous for their beauty as they are for their pebble shores. There are plenty of water shoes on Amazon, my sexy(!) pair in the photo below are from Decathlon

11. Beach essentials!

With prescribed ‘me time’ every afternoon, you’ll have plenty for the Adriatic Sea or lounging at the villa pool

So you may need:

  • a sun hat
  • sunscreen
  • sandals / flip flops
  • beach towel
  • bikini / swimsuit
  • sunglasses
  • holiday book

12. Eye pillow

Last but not least, if you have an eye pillow bring it! An eye pillow is usually filled with lavender and a heavy grain like rice. As you are probably aware lavender is well known for its calming effects, whilst the weight of rice puts pressure on the vagus nerve which in turn stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, giving the body permission to relax by sending calming messages down the neck, shoulders, chest, heart and stomach.
